Detroit City Guide Bool Vol.4 ‘’Rise From The Ashes’’
L'atelier de Julien Sirjacq, aux Beaux-Arts de Paris, expose le quatrième et dernier volet de sa série Detroit City Guide Book : Rise from the Ashes, à la galerie P38, du 31 octobre au 9 novembre 2019.
Au cœur de la violence politique historique des États-Unis, de la fulgurante ascension au brutal déclin d'une ville, d'une industrie, d'un système social et d’une économie est née à Détroit une culture résistante et visionnaire, qui continue à contaminer de sa résilience chaque espace de pensée alternative depuis 40 ans.
Ce dernier volet est le fruit de la rencontre avec Cary Loren (membre fondateur de Destroy All Monsters avec Niagara, Jim Shaw et Mike Kelley).
L’exposition, conçue comme une exploration des rituels macabres et vernaculaires d’aujourd’hui, prend la forme d’une Spook House. Celle-ci convoque l’essence esthétique et les significations de ces différentes expressions sous-culturelles jugées souvent « primitives », issues du satanisme et du paganisme.
Sous l’invocation de Mike Kelley et de ses pairs, l’exposition se déploie comme un environnement immersif, traçant un parcours et une analyse du culte de la peur et de la violence qui naviguera entre les maisons désaffectées de la banlieue de Détroit transformées en musées de l’horreur pour Halloween, l’histoire de la contre-culture et le retour du refoulé…
Une publication conçue à partir des archives de Manuel Morin, collectionneur et membre fondateur de la galerie P38 et de la coopérative Battcoop, sera éditée à l’occasion de l’exposition.

From October 31st to November 9th 2019 at the “Galerie P38’’, Julien Sirjacq’s studio of the Beaux-Arts de Paris exhibited the fourth and final part of its Detroit City Guide Book “Rise from the Ashes’. At the core of the historical police brutality in the United States, from the dazzling ascent to
the brutal decline of a city, an industry, a social system and of an economy, was born in Detroit a resilient and visionary culture which continues to muscle in every alternative thinking spaces of the last 40 years. This final part is the result of a meeting with Cary Loren —founding member of Destroy All Monsters with Niagara, Him Shaw and Mike Kelley—. The exhibition, conceived as an exploration of macabre and vernacular rituals of today, share the characteristics of a Spook House. It brings together the aesthetic essence and meanings of these different sub-cultural expressions often considered «primitive», stemming from satanism and paganism. Under the impulse of Mike Kelley and his peers, the exhibition unfolds as an immersive environment that explores the culture of fear and violence; an exploration navigating between the abandoned houses of Detroit’s suburbs transformed into museums of horror for Halloween, the history of counter-culture and the return of the repressed. member of the “Galerie P38’’ and of the “BATT Coop’’ —an artistic collective—, was published on the occasion of the exhibition.
